Helga Borghorst Prize
StoP Kreuzberg was awarded the Helga Borghorst Women's Prize in 2026, the first time this prize has been presented. The award recognises StoP Kreuzberg's neighbourhood work against partner violence, which strengthens solidarity, civil courage, and mutual support in the district. The prize honours initiatives that are particularly committed to women's rights, equality, and protection from violence. The award, worth €7,000, commemorates the feminist political work of Helga Borghorst, Berlin's first Secretary of State for Women's Affairs. The honour belongs to the many dedicated StoP activists in Kreuzberg who work together for violence-free relationships and communities. Particular recognition was given to the feminist embroidery circle, the StoP Women's Theatre, and the project leben-nach-dem-frauenhaus.de. StoP Women's Theatre
The short film shows an excerpt from the women's theatre piece created by StoP activists from Kreuzberg. The piece was developed collaboratively over the course of a year and can be performed on request at neighbourhood centres and public spaces across Berlin. It is based on the theatre method of Augusto Boal. Audience members can actively participate and explore new courses of action. The theatre piece opens up conversations about partner violence, strengthens solidarity in the neighbourhood, and thus works preventively against violence.
Leben nach dem Frauenhaus – Narrated Strength. Lived Solidarity.
Former residents of the first autonomous women's shelter in Berlin have created a digital archive together with StoP Kreuzberg. Through texts, photos, and audio recordings, the women share their stories – of life in the shelter, their experiences of starting anew, and the long journey towards self-empowerment. From their shared years, a strong community has grown that has supported and encouraged one another for over 30 years. "With this project, we want to give other women the courage to trust themselves and raise their voice."
The first autonomous women's shelter was founded in 1976 as a feminist response to violence against women. One in three women in Germany experiences partner violence – combating it remains a responsibility for society as a whole.

“Our Right to a Life Free from Violence” – Travelling Exhibition
The exhibition "Our Right to a Life Free from Violence" by the feminist embroidery circle of StoP Kreuzberg can be requested by institutions and public venues. At its heart are 55 embroidered fabric pieces by 22 Kreuzberg women, which make visible their political demands for a life free from violence and have been brought together in a shared banner. The exhibition combines artistic expression, activism, remembrance, and solidarity, and is suitable for neighbourhood centres, educational institutions, and public spaces. It can be complemented by an accompanying programme of discussion formats and exchange. In consultation with the embroidery circle, open embroidery as a participatory format is also possible. Showing Your Face Against Partner Violence – Campaign
The poster campaign #SheIsOurNeighbour (#SieIstUnsereNachbarin) was developed in 2024 together with people from the Kreuzberg community. It makes visible: partner violence can affect anyone – we stand in solidarity with those affected. The aim is to strengthen civil courage and solidarity and to make a public statement against violence. Neighbours, volunteers and staff from various organisations took part with photos and statements.

What is StoP? In brief:
StoP – "Stadtteile ohne Partnergewalt" (Neighbourhoods Free from Partner Violence) – supports people in the neighbourhood who want to show civil courage and stand in solidarity with women affected by partner violence. StoP has been active in various districts across several German cities since 2010. Partner violence/domestic violence occurs every day – across all levels of society. Women are disproportionately affected. Partner violence destroys the health and lives of everyone involved. The problem is that we talk about it too rarely – whether out of shame, fear, or uncertainty. Or because we believe it is a private matter.
But violence is not a private matter; it is a violation of human rights.

We use the terms women/girls without * and include all people who identify as women or are read as female. We understand partner violence to mean violence by people read as male, perpetrated by current or former relationship partners. It is most commonly carried out in the domestic sphere, often systematically over a prolonged period of time.
