About the Project
StoP – "Stadtteile ohne Partnergewalt" (Neighbourhoods Free from Partner Violence) – supports people in the neighbourhood who want to show civil courage and stand in solidarity with women affected by partner violence. StoP has been active in various districts across several German cities since 2010. Partner violence/domestic violence occurs every day – across all levels of society. Women are disproportionately affected. Partner violence destroys the health and lives of everyone involved. The problem is that we talk about it too rarely – whether out of shame, fear, or uncertainty. Or because we believe it is a private matter.
But violence is not a private matter; it is a violation of human rights.

How does StoP help?
We want to encourage people not to stay silent about or tolerate partner violence. And we want to support people in seeking help or offering help to others.
- StoP starts where partner violence happens: at home, in the neighbourhood.
- StoP thrives when people become active together – you, me, and others we know or have yet to meet.
- Stop shows how those affected and their social networks can create change.
- StoP brings the topic into the neighbourhood in inventive and creative ways.
- StoP brings people together and builds networks in the neighbourhood.
- StoP stands for a life free from violence and for equality in relationships, marriage, and society.

We use the terms women/girls without * and include all people who identify as women or are read as female. We understand partner violence to mean violence by people read as male, perpetrated by current or former relationship partners. It is most commonly carried out in the domestic sphere, often systematically over a prolonged period of time.
